Oxidation Catalysts (OC)
Oxidation catalysts are used in various applications from diesel engines to industrial plants. The task is always the conversion of hazardous compounds like carbon monoxide (CO), volatile organic compounds (VOC), formaldehyde (CH2O) and other hydrocarbons (HC) to the nontoxic products carbon dioxide (CO2) and water (H2O). This reaction is called total oxidation. Mainly precious metals like platinum and palladium are used as active components along with special promoters and binders which are added to maximize catalytic activity and durability. Oxides with very high surface area are used to support the precious metals and together, these materials are coated onto different types of ceramic or metallic substrates.
